Tara & Tom's New Years Eve Wedding - Museum Of Man, Balboa Park, San Diego, Ca.

Tara & Tom's wedding day was much anticipated by many but especially by me. Balboa Park at night during the Holidays is always a treat with all the holiday decorations and... the l i g h t s! Night photography has always been one of my favorite things in the world! To incorporate it into my wedding creations is truly a treat. No one else could have pulled this off better than Tara & Tom. They were very natural together and having the time of their lives. For their BIG day they were in the good hands of the Abbey Catering Team, of which I am so proud to be part of. Arturo's flower creations were amazing as always. And check out the super-elegant cake from Baby Cakes. It matches Tara's uber-elegant crystal and bead-studded dress and jewelry, which looked completely amazing on her. What guy doesn't look drop-dead handsome in a tux?! Our Lady Of The Rosary in Little Italy hosted Tara & Tom's full-mass ceremony. Larry Samuels – Bagpiper amazing tunes accompanied the couples entrance and exit to the parish. The Museum Of Man in Balboa Park was just incredible with the soaring ceilings. Fog rolled-in for a short time during the reception so I grabbed T&T for some really dreamy-romantic looking images out in front of the museum. It's amazing what we can do in just a few minutes! These two are SO sweet and so fun together. What a great way to ring in 2012... Happy New Marriage T&T! Love you guys!

Michelle & Dave's BIG Day - Balboa Admin. Courtyard & La Jolla's Cuvier Club

October 8th, 2011 was another perfect San Diego day for Michelle & David's wedding. Michelle & Dave also celebrated their new digs in Rockville, Maryland AND Michelle's very recent graduation finishing her Phd just before the wedding day! What go-getters these two are! Dave is a member of a Seal team in the military. These two are really sweet and were able to really enjoy their wedding day as you can see in the photos. The bride and groom's day started with preparations and bridal party photos at the Empress Hotel in La Jolla. Later we headed over to the scenic Balboa Park Administrative Courtyard for the ceremony. What a treasure of a place to have a wedding! The colorful tiled, domed archways linked with long walkways covered in bouganvilla and wysteria vines surrounded cool green grass areas with a huge fountain backdrop for the wedding ceremony. So pretty! The reception was at the Cuvier Club in La Jolla where Abbey Catering served their award-winning, signature, mouth-watering dishes, and B-Boy Productions rolled-out some great tunes whilst keeping the party rolling along. Michelle and Dave really went out of their way to ensure we'd have time for some quick sunset photos during dinner hour, having a car waiting to drive us quickly down to the La Jolla shore to snap some amazing images. These two were so natural and lovely to work with. They are the kind of couple that just knows how to enjoy each other and are very comfortable with each other. It makes my job so much fun. I truly appreciate the honor of being the photographer chosen to capture Michelle & Dave's special day. Thank you!

Amy & James Wedding at St. James By The Sea Episcopaleon Church & Cuvier Club

Yes, it's been a while since my last post. My only excuse is that I've been busy photographing weddings all summer long. And what a summer it's been! Here is a look at a lovely couple named Amy and James on their wedding day September 24th, 2011. Amy and James and their families booked premium rooms at the Empress Hotel in La Jolla where the couple were photographed before the wedding in their separate rooms. Amy put the finishing touches on before her ceremony while the groom and his pals played a few hands of cards. How refreshing in this age of handheld devices! Anyway, it was the most perfect weather for a wedding in La Jolla at the historical St. James By The Sea Episcopalian Church. I've always hoped I would get to photograph there. The photography rules are the strictest I've ever run across; but apparently I passed the test with flying colors and I didn't get banned like many others do. It was a beautiful ceremony conducted by Reverend Randall. Check-out the beautiful flowers from Artquest Floral. After the ceremony and some church photos we footed to the La Jolla shore for bride and groom photos. Oh I love that place! It is the best place to photograph couples and I just love working there. Amy certainly had made her own statement in her beautiful gown, a most photogenic bride indeed. James is a terrific guy and when he's with Amy he beams. At times, I had to be sure I was photographing James and not his twin brother/best man. The party got underway at the Cuvier Club where Amy & James, their bridal party, and family and friends had an amazing meal provided by The Abbey Catering. This was yet another flawless all-inclusive package event put on by the amazing Abbey team of professionals. Stephi & Tom - July 17th - The Darlington House in La Jolla, Ca.

Without question, La Jolla is my favorite place to photograph. I would be remiss if I didn't express my gratitude at being able to say such a thing. Specially when just about everywhere else in the nation continues having searing temperatures. Southern California has been blessed with cooler temperatures and we are truly grateful for it. It was an exceptionally beautiful day in La Jolla. Perfect for Stephi & Tom's wedding celebration at the historic Darlington House. Stephi and Tom love the vintage style and they even live in a vintage style home they recently renovated so this place was perfect for them. Check out Stephi's gorgeous vintage-inspired dress and Tom's (and groomsmen's) tuxedo with tails! Such a refreshing look, indeed for a wedding. Stephi and Tom are the nicest people you'd ever want to meet and their family's and friends fall into that category as well. Congratulations Stephi & Tom! Heather & Marcus - 7-10-2011 Glorietta Bay Coronado, Ca.

A truly magical wedding took place on this beautiful day in Coronado, California. The bride and groom chose the historic Glorietta Bay Inn for their local homebase, which was formerly the sugar-giant Spreckles family mansion. Just don't forget to shut the retractable iron gate on the personal elevator to the penthouse when you leave it or it's rendered unusable. Really beautifully restored hotel retro-fitted for modern comforts while maintaining the original charm. It was a perfect backdrop for Heather and her gals to get ready for the big day ahead. Photos overlooking Glorietta Bay at the Cornoado Community Center then on to the other side of the Silver Strand to the Pacific Ocean for the beach ceremony. A talented string quartet played during the moving ceremony. After a few more photos at the ceremony site we headed back to the community center for the Abbey Catering hosted cocktail hour and the reception dinner. Heather had a surprise wardrobe change after some of the best father toasts we'd ever heard. Kick-it up Heather! You have a true gentleman for a husband. Congratulations Heather & Marcus!

Nicole & Todd - 7-2-2011 Balboa Park's Zoro Gardens

Nicole & Todd live in Arizona and made San Diego's Balboa Park their home-again destination wedding. These two work in theater so there were no issues with camera shyness including the wedding party. We had a grand time romping about in Balboa Park on a sunny July afternoon, hitting all the best spots. Todd & Nicole's first sight session before their ceremony, was indeed one of the most beautiful ever with the lush background of the Zoro Gardens. The afternoon light was stunning! Nicole & Todd were pretty good dancers, too. The couple had their reception at the Doubletree Inn Downtown on Front Street which had some amazing rooftop views from the pool level, not to mention from the rooms where the groom was getting ready. Truly a fabulously fun day for me and this playful couple and their closest friends and family. Well done Nicole & Todd. Congratulations!

Splendid are my days shooting when I get to have fun with a super-nice couple in Balboa Park! Laura & Joey tied the knot last June 17th at the Point Loma Submarine Naval Training Base's Ocean View Room. Before the ceremony we headed over to the park for family photos, bridal party photos, and bride and groom portraits. It's always true that when the couple are loving and sweet, so are their family and friends. Natasha & Chad chose the Ocean Palms Beach Resort in Carlsbad, Ca. as their place to celebrate their wedding day. A quick walk across the street gets you to the stairs to the beach where they had their relaxed ceremony. After the ceremony and the group photos at the beach I took the couple on their 30 minute photo walk. They were so much fun, very playful! I loved Natasha's short bridal dress! It was perfect for a beach wedding.

Fabulous day for a wedding at the rooftop venue at La Jolla Cove Suites. This all-in-one wedding ceremony and reception site sits about 6 stories above Prospect Street. It has the best views of the Pacific ocean and the ocean breezes are splendid. Beck & Jim tied the know there this Spring with their own style. These two love the beaches so this was a perfect day for this lovely, sweet couple.

Bat Mitzvah - April 16th, 2011 Beth Israel Synagogue & La Jolla Women's Club

There's a first time for everything and this was my first Mitzvah shoot. Scott and Lorraine celebrated their daughter, Jessa's Bat Mitzvah in great style and with a lot of love. After Jessa's morning hour of proceedings at the beautiful Beth Israel Synagogue, I arrived to photograph family and friends sharing traditional challa bread and "wine". Photographers are not allowed to photograph the ceremony inside the sanctuary due to camera noises that might distract concentration (although I did manage a shot through the crack in the door). Later in the evening the families and friends reconvened at the La Jolla Women's Club to celebrate with a Harry Potter themed party complete with a magician, costume/photo booth, magic potions and potion-making books handmade by Lorraine herself. Each table even had it's own owl! Abbey Catering is the exclusive caterer at the La Jolla Women's Club. After the Weiner's grand entrance Jessa was paraded aboard a chair lifted high by four that included her father, Scott. More Challa was shared and Jessa lit 13 memory candles for family members. Christina the dance-motivator and great tunes by DJ Randy kept the party rockin! Adults and kids alike were dancing and having a great time. Maybe it was just me but it seems that when kids are this age they are still at a "fun" age and don't go all out to avoid the grown-ups. Everyone *played* together! What a great slice of humanity this was to witness. This was a unique experience for me and I took great joy in experiencing a different culture. I am grateful and honored to have been there to record the event in photos! To Scott, who is a great photographer, and Lorraine thank you for putting your trust in me. Your daughter is a beautiful and she is so fortunate to have you as parents.

Maya & Will - USD Immaculata & La Jolla Women's Club

Maya is a really sweet lady from Texas. She is incredibly pleasant and easy-going and has a nobel heart, always thinking of her fiance, families, and guests first on HER wedding day.  This Navy lady is also a go-getter! Will, her fiance, revealed to me that she speaks 5 languages! Maya found her perfect match in Will, who found his way to California from Pennsylvania to start his Law firm. Will is a really sweet man with no reservations about showing his feelings for his beautiful Maya on their wedding day.

These two soles were bonded in Holy matrimony at The Immaculata at USD. I've heard and agree that this Parish is indeed the most beautiful Catholic Parish in San Diego County with it's soaring blue ceiling domes, massive carved marble columns and arches - it just doesn't get any better than the Immaculate for a San Diego Catholic Parish wedding site! Just enough light to shoot at the max ISO! Check-out the gorgeous flowers provided by Artquest Floral, an Abbey preferred florist. Arturo is always ahead of time with the flower delivery, and they ALWAYS look at the peak of freshness. I love his beautiful and unique designs and it's always a treat to see what he's going to come up with next!

After the half-hour Catholic ceremony followed the formal family group photos, then the folks headed over to the legendary La Jolla Women's Club for the cocktail hour and reception. The Abbey Catering & Event Design Company took care of every detail for Maya & Will and the day went without a hitch! The sitdown dinner for their 60 guests was absolutely d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s!! Lucky me, I get to enjoy the food as well - YUM! Ah... there are perks to my job that I am truly grateful for! There is a reason Abbey was voted #1 caterer in San Diego County 2010!

I'm also very grateful that The Abbey people and vendors all work so well with me, and as a team.   Imagine hoping all your vendors on your wedding day are professional, can communicate, and work well with each other to assure the day goes smoothly - a good way to invite disaster. With the Abbey all-inclusive package, we already know each other and already know how to work well together.   We know what it takes to make things not just work, but work very well. It's a coordinated effort of communication and respect. Abbey's Lead Coordinator, Petr Trebin is a fabulous man to work with (as are the others)!  Add the other very major ingredient for success, DJ Randy, and you have a team working together like a well-oiled machine! I am very proud to be working with such talented professionals - it's a dream come true!

Maya & Will felt the same way about their wedding day. Maya & Will's wedding day was very special and I am truly honored to have been chosen to capture it, for all time, in photos. These two very busy professionals really wanted to leave the details to the pro's so they could just relax and enjoy their day with their friends and families.  The proof is in the photos. Sue & Patrick wanted to have their engagement photo session at Balboa Park. What's not to like about Balboa Park! Incredible architecture and botanicals abound. It was definitely one of those perfect December days in beautiful San Diego making for a splendid, let-it-all-out, fun photo session for Sue & Patrick. Sue & Patrick are super easy-going and easy to get to know. They specially enjoy their time together traveling abroad. We look forward to photographing their wedding next year at the Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas where The Abbey Catering's all-inclusive package blossoms into a memorable day for this sweet couple. My associate, Steve did a fabulous job of capturing Sue & Patrick's joy!

Bobbie Sue & Brandon October 15th, 2010

Ahhh... The Darlington House. Bobbie Sue couldn't have picked a better place to host her wedding ceremony and reception. Listed as one of California's Historic Homes, it has been beautifully restored and maintained. Handmade tiles, wrought iron, and hand-carved woodwork from all over the world are at every turn making this a perfectly unique setting for a wedding celebration. Bobbie Sue and Brandon exchanged vows on October 15th, 2010 with an all-inclusive package from the Abbey Catering - voted #1 by the community on 10News.com. Fall colors popped everywhere with Arturo's flower designs. Cool vibes and music provied by DJ Randy, and a Flour Power cake tied everything together to the delight of the guests. Check out the precious little bird houses that Bobbie Sue and Brandon made by hand for table pieces. Bobbie Sue and Brandon are just *so* made for each other - it's ridiculous! I am also grateful for my 2nd camera Steve of Bluewave Photographic who captured Brandon and his groomsmen at the car showroom, and walking in the alley, in this set of photos. A 2nd shooter assures you will have great coverage.

October 1st, 2010 was a very special Friday that started with Cara & Aaron's ceremony at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Pacific Beach (yes, that's two weddings there this year). The reception was at the Seaside Room at Marina Village. This was an Abbey Catering all-inclusive event so the event went without a hitch - this is a "well-oiled" machine-of-a-team working many events together. Cara & Aaron, a very charming couple, set the tone of their day with understated elegance. Black and white accented with green. I loved photographing Cara & Aaron - WOW are they photogenic! As you can see, they were comfortable in front of my lens on their wedding day and some of that is because we did an engagement photo session earlier this year, so they knew what to expect. I think it allows couples to relax and be themselves a little more - let the walls down so-to-speak. This was a fabulous couple to work with and I LOVE THEM!!!

I knew before this shoot that off-camera lighting would be important since it was going to be dark by the time we arrived for photos from the ceremony site, and I knew my flash would be the primary light, so I planned for it by bringing a lighting assistant to position my flash. Many huge, huge thanks to Andrea Gallagher.

2010 - The Year of the Beach and Church

The Year In Review - 2010

Well, well.... it's been a while since my last blog posting. That's because I've been super busy finishing up editing for this past wedding season. It also means I get to share all the weddings I've had the honor of photographing this past year. It's been an incredible year. I am so grateful for all my wonderful clients - they are the nicest people you could want to meet. I LOVE my job!!!! It's just the greatest thing to know that yeah, I'm working, but it just doesn't seem like work when I enjoy it so much!

Toward the later part of this year, I introduced some off-camera strobes for delicious portrait lighting. I expect to do more with this next year. I am so pleased with the results - there simply is no better way to go!

I also had the honor of photographing many couples on the cliffs in La Jolla making my mark with couples with my signature bride and groom scenic coastal photo walks. I'm really enjoying these photo sessions and can't wait to do more of them. There are not many places like this beautiful coastal area. The rocks are just fabulous with the waves crashing all around - ahh.... I can hear them now.

Many wonderful venues this year as well. The Darlington House was a treat to photograph with the plethora of antique, hand-crafted details at every turn. Also, this was the year for church weddings! Never have I photographed so many church weddings in all my years combined. The Immaculata at USD seems to be the most beautiful and sought after Catholic church in San Diego. I also did a few at St. Brigid's in Pacific Beach,a very nice church.

I'll be posting more of the weddings that filled my days this wedding season so stay tuned!

Tangela & Troy - TEN-TEN-TEN

Tangela & Troy tied the knot on October 10th, 2010 or 10-10-10. Lucky numbers? I think so... This was one classy, intimate wedding held all at one breath-taking location right on Mission Bay. This rental home is said to be "Home of the Year" by some local authority on such things. And I believe it! This place was really sleek and sexy - kind of like Tangela and Troy! These two enjoyed their small wedding of about 35 people as a destination wedding from Chicago. The bridal preps were in the master bedroom on the 3rd, or 4th floor (I can't really say since this home seems to have had more floors, mezanines, and terraces than Machu Pechu), and more mirrors than a fun house! The ceremony was on the adjoining beach front, and the reception was on the rooftop!

Samantha & Michael - Sept, 11th, 2010

I met Michael and his groomsmen at Paradise Point Resort for a pre-ceremony photo session. Talk about fun! These guys - all eight of them - were a bunch of HAMS! Well, the groom was a tad on the shy side about photos but all-in-all, it managed to balance out. The guys left and then Samantha and her bridesmaids arrived via trolly! The grounds of this resort are quite lush and tropical just like you'd want to see if you came from anywhere else in the lower 48. We then headed over to the Sunset Cliffs park for a sand cliffs-over-the-ocean ceremony. The reception was at Pacific Beach's cozy Fig Tree Cafe. I also love it when the family and friends are just as nice as the bride and groom, it makes for a nice vibe and fun shooting!

Tani & John - September 5th, 2010

Tani & John exchanged vows in a touching ceremony at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church. Following the ceremony, we drove to the La Jolla cove beach cliffs area for a few photos. Then the couple headed down to the Seaside Room at Marina Village. They boarded a friends sail boat for a short ride before the ceremony but being the holiday weekend, boat traffic caused a bit of a delay for their return. The beach themed decorations were delightfully tasteful with silver dolphins holding table cards for each guest. Tani & John delighted guests with dinner, drinks, and dancing to help celebrate their union on a beautiful evening by the bay. Tani & John were delightful people and I'm honored to have been a part of their wedding day.

Celena & Bill - The Hilton Harbor Island

July 10, 2010 Celena & Bill tied the knot at the Hilton Harbor Island in the Lindberg/Skyline room with a style all their own. Their beach themed reception hall called the Marine Room was complete with a wedding-garbed, star-fish topper for the cake. We went accross the street to the bay side park for photos before and after the ceremony. I have to say, Celena & Bill were some of the nicest people I've ever met. Their wedding planner Gayle Feallock- Just Imagine Weddings-619-865-9482 was tops, too

Leny & Rafael - July 3rd, 2010

Anna started her wedding day preparations at Humphrey's Half Moon Inn Hotel. Anna has lots of style and pizzaz! We had a blast photographing her. I just love it when brides play to the camera! Check out the vintage White Cloud Rolls Royce she and her gals rode in over to The Bay View Restaurant at the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot facility. The view of the bay was beautiful, specially at night. These were definitely party people!

Tomoko & Terry - Los Penasquitos Ranch House Wedding 8-21-2010

This lovely couple tied the knot in true Rancho Southern California style. Tomoko and Terry exchanged vows and blended their traditional ceremony with some touches of Japanese. They threw an intimate party to celebrate their union at the Los Penasquitos Ranch House, the oldest private standing structure in San Diego, it was built around 1823. These two were so much fun! What a nice surprize! It was also fun to work with Eddie Bojorquez of Studio512 and his lovely wife, Kellye. It was a beautiful and ideal day. Blue skies, giant royal palms, and orange colored roses all came together for some unique and beautiful photo memories for these two. Wild Thyme Catering had a nice crew. It's wonderful that this lovely venue is practically in my own backyard.

K & P's La Jolla Cove Suites Wedding Celebration - August 14th, 2010

Oh my! Was Saturday ever my lucky day! I had the honor of photographing K & P's Abbey Catering all-inclusive package wedding celebration on the rooftop of the La Jolla Cove Suites right off of Coast Blvd. What a view of the Pacific from up there!! Absolutely spectacular. Across the street is the jewel of La Jolla's beaches, and one of my very favorite places to photograph couples. What I love about this couple? Besides being cute and charming, they were truly carefree and relaxed on their wedding day. Loads of smiles and fun - they needed no coaxing for their photos. The magic was happening right before my lens! Yes, lucky me, I know...!! Lots of people came from afar on this perfect Southern California day. Mostly from New York, Cleavland, and Louisiana. Almost "spooky" how fun these people were! I think these families have a fun future together. And there is no doubt in my mind that K & P have a fabulous future together.

L & J's Wedding at La Jolla Bridge Club Aug. 7th, 2010

What a fabulous day to be married! L's preparations were at the The Grande Colonial Inn in La Jolla, followed by a beautiful ceremony at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Pacific Beach. The reception was at the La Jolla Bridge Club. This was a fabulous venue for a seaside wedding celebration with the Pacific ocean's crashing waves on the beautiful cliffs only a few yards away. This is another all-inclusive package from Abbey Catering providing everything from the couple's limousine to the delicious appetizers and gourmet food. Tareq of Timecodemedia captured the days highlights on video for the couple. L & J were a photographer's dream couple to photograph! The joy this couple exudes rubbed-off on everyone. They clearly were relaxed and enjoying their day in the sunshine. Our photo sessions at the cliffs with the wedding party were exhilerating with the waves crashing all around. The ladies took off their shoes to make the walk easier. The bride and groom portraits were really fun. As crowded as it can be at these very popular cliffs, everyone was considerate and gave us the whole rock outcrop to ourselves. Near the end of this session, I heard people behind me clapping and cheering and when I looked back there were dozens of people looking down, watching the handsome couple from above. L & J were truly the stars of the seaside that day.

Dorothy's day began with her and her bridesmaind's preparations at the Hotel La Jolla. Then we met Jeremy and his groomsmen at the La Jolla Cove cliffs for photos. Then I setup the couple's very first sight of each other on their wedding day. We followed with the bride & groom's photo walk - a 30 minute session focusing on the bride & groom portraits - right on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific! We also photographed the bridal parties there - all before the ceremony. We then made our way to the La Jolla Women's Club in preparation for the ceremony. Dorothy & Jeremy tied the knot at the historic La Jolla Women's Club west lawn with a very sweet ceremony and exchange of some pretty humorous vows that made everyone laugh. We went right into family group photos right after the ceremony. The Abbey Catering provided the all-inclusive wedding package which included their signature gourmet food & beverage, limousine, and event coordination, etc. Abbey was voted the 2010 #1 Caterer in San Diego. Photo services included myself and a 2nd shooter to provide enhanced coverage, DJ Randy, Flour Power provided the beautiful cake, Artquest Flowers, and Lois Baldi officiant. There were lots of children adding energy and fun to the celebration!

Georgina & Casey's Wedding Celebration - March 6, 2010

When I first met Georgina I knew she was a woman with a clear vision of her wedding day. She put her heart and soul into her wedding, making sure that it reflected their unique style. No detail was left unattended. The really, really cool thing about Georgina is that she proved that her vision was not a command but rather close teamwork with each of her vendors. She has a way of always putting other people's feelings first and that is a wonderful gift. Casey is the other reason I love this couple. He is one of those people that always seems really happy. I don't think I've ever seen a groom so relaxed and comfortable on his wedding day, and Casey is as nice as they come. Put these two souls together and you have one very sweet, easy-to-be- around, classy couple! To have them in my lens on their wedding day was an honor.

Kelly & Mike's Wedding

I had the honor and privilege of photographing Kelly & Mike's wedding in La Jolla, Ca. I just want to say what amazing chemistry these two have! Kelly & Mike, thank you for being so wonderful to work with! People like you are why I love my job! Kelly and Mike are truly sweet and caring people. We were at the cliffs near the La Jolla wedding bowl. The ceremony and reception were at the historic La Jolla Women's Club. Many thanks to the fine, talented folks at the Abbey Catering & Event Design Company for putting together this event. The La Jolla Women's Club lawn/ceremony area at dusk looked beautiful with the lights on the trees. I have a passion for photographing the dusk/dawn because of the color of the sky at those times! I often arrange this with my couple's in advance. This above picture was the very last frame of the day.

This was an amazing retaining wall that was quite tall and long and had this small inset of bricks and an old steel bar across it. Perhaps it was once a tunnel opening. I love the unique bridal bouquette of peonies
